How to use the on-camera data pre-processing of uEye polarisation cameras
TechTip: Polarisation in real-time
The knowledge of polarised light belongs to the standard scope in image processing. Reflections and spotlights can be reduced, while contrasts of fine structures can be increased. Even physical properties below the surface, such as material tensions, can be visualized.
To quantify the polarisation information, however, four sequential images with different polarisation filters and subsequent PC processing were necessary.
With Sony's Polarsens technology, the complete polarisation information is available with only one image. With a firmware update, this is now also possible with uEye CP polarisation cameras. Through data pre-processing, the raw data are converted in real time into useful image formats in these industrial cameras, for more effective post-processing or analysis in the host PC.
