MIT REAP delegation visits IDS

International delegation visits Heilbronn – IDS demonstrates strength in innovation network

From January 27 to 30, Heilbronn welcomed an international delegation from the renowned MIT REAP program, organized by the Dieter Schwarz Foundation and Campus Founders. Participants visited IDS, AUDI, SCHUNK and the Innovation Park Artificial Intelligence (IPAI), among others.

For us, this visit sends a strong signal: IDS is mentioned on equal footing with leading industrial companies and is recognized as an important technology partner within the dynamically growing network. Heilbronn is increasingly developing into an international hotspot for future technologies, where companies, municipalities, and start-ups are driving innovation together. Our active involvement strengthens IDS's position and confirms that we are on the right path.

During the two-hour program, guests were given a concise insight into our company. Jan Hartmann (Managing Partner) and Sigrid Rögner (Head of Business Innovation & Ecosystem) outlined our journey: from our technological roots to our current core products and our role in the innovation network. Mathias Hummler (Head of Production and Logistics) and Rainer Barthau (Department Manager Hardware & Industrial Engineering) then guided the delegation through the development and manufacturing departments. Guests experienced firsthand how visions become products: It became clear how our cameras are made, how electromagnetic compatibility is tested in the EMC laboratory, what precision is required in the optics laboratory, and what role AI-supported technologies play today.

Sigrid Rögner described the visit as follows: "The fact that IDS is mentioned in the same breath as companies such as Audi and Schunk and is perceived as a relevant technology partner in the growing Heilbronn ecosystem shows how important our contribution to the region has become."

The MIT Regional Entrepreneurship Acceleration Program (REAP) is an internationally renowned initiative offered by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. It supports regions worldwide in establishing high-performance innovation and start-up ecosystems. Teams develop strategies over two years to promote entrepreneurship, technology development, and regional value creation.
The fact that Heilbronn is represented here and that IDS was part of the delegation trip underscores the growing international visibility of our region.

The Dieter Schwarz Foundation is a non-profit organization committed to education, research, and entrepreneurship, and strengthens Heilbronn's position as a leading location for innovation. Its initiatives include Campus Founders, a dynamic startup and co-innovation hub on the education campus that promotes entrepreneurial spirit and facilitates collaboration between young companies and established players. In addition, the foundation is driving forward the development of the Innovation Park Artificial Intelligence (IPAI), a unique ecosystem in Europe that combines research, development, and application of responsible AI and connects companies, startups, and academia.
