Camera and electronics: I2C ensures easy connection between boards
New firmware 3.2 released - uEye+LE board-level cameras now available with I2C
The current firmware update 3.2 makes an additional interface available for the uEye+ LE cameras. Using I2C, external devices can now be controlled via the cameras (send). Additionally, actions can be triggered in the host by querying the interface (receive). For example, micro-controllers can communicate with the host via the interface of the cameras.
Compared to using individual digital IOs, this allows for more complex control. By directly connecting two boards, you therefore benefit from greater flexibility in device and circuit development.
One possible application is the direct control of a light source. Jürgen Hejna, Product Manager at IDS, explains: "I2C enables easy connection between the camera and your own electronics. This is a popular feature with our classic uEye LE cameras. With the new firmware update, we are now making this usable for Vision Standard-compliant uEye+ LE board-level cameras via GenICam camera nodes."
The interface is also available in our uEye+ ACP industrial cameras. Thanks to their modular design, these board-level cameras can be configured very flexibly - simply use the uEye ACP camera configurator.
