Introduction

These release notes describe the new features and changes in the IDS NXT 4.2 release. This release updates the following components:

IDS NXT OS 4.2

IDS NXT cockpit 4.2

This version of the IDS NXT cockpit supports Windows 11 64-bit (version 23H2) and Windows 10 64-bit (version 22H2).

New and changed functions

  • With an IDS NXT malibu camera, you can use the Event Recorder to record a stream directly before, during and after an event, so that you have a video sequence of the period surrounding the event after the event. You find the settings for the Event Recorder under "Application > Settings > Recording". Requires IDS NXT OS 4.2 or later.
  • The stream settings have been revised and extended. You can now set the quality of the video compression.
  • You can configure the additional URL for stream 3 (HTTP) of an IDS NXT malibu camera, making it easier to integrate the camera into existing systems or applications. Requires IDS NXT OS 4.2 or later.
  • You can correct lens distortion in an IDS NXT malibu camera. Prerequisite: You load a corresponding file with information for lens distortion correction onto the camera. You will find the "Lens distortion correction" area under "Application > Settings > Camera". Requires IDS NXT OS 4.2 or later.
  • It is possible to reset vision apps to factory settings in the Vision App Manager for an IDS NXT malibu camera. Requires IDS NXT OS 4.1 or later.
  • When using an NTP time server, the time synchronization status is displayed. Requires IDS NXT OS 4.0 or later.

General improvements

  • The user profiles for logging on to the camera are displayed as language-neutral names "user", "service" and "admin" in IDS NXT cockpit. This corresponds to the designations of the REST interface.
  • You can copy the content of information elements of vision apps.

Bugfixes

  • When downloading files from the camera, the progress bar displayed no change if the file size was unknown at the time of download. An undetermined progress indicator is now displayed for these files during the download process.
  • ConfigurableGPIOs are displayed correctly within vision apps.

Vision apps

GPIO Gateway 4.2

  • Missing translations in Japanese and French were added.

OPC UA Server 4.2

  • The OPC UA Server vision app is now also available for the IDS NXT malibu camera.
  • The vision app OPC UA Server 4.2 (.mvapp) only supports IDS NXT malibu cameras. Prerequisite: IDS NXT OS 4.2 or later.
  • The vision app OPC UA server 4.2 (.vapp) only supports the cameras IDS NXT rio and IDS NXT rome. Prerequisite: IDS NXT OS 4.0 or later.
  • Missing translations in Japanese and French were added.

Known issues

IDS NXT OS / IDS NXT cockpit Upload backups The size of the maximum possible backup is limited to the free RAM space of the camera at the time of upload.
IDS NXT cockpit IDS NXT malibu If multiple IDS NXT cockpits are opened on a PC at the same time, the IDS NXT malibu is only displayed in the Finder of one IDS NXT cockpit.
IDS NXT cockpit IDS NXT rio / IDS NXT rome If you enable image sharpening and use a sensor ROI, the image in the IDS NXT cockpit may jump. This error can mean that the ROI cannot be adjusted in vision apps.
IDS NXT cockpit Finder If you selected a camera in the Finder for longer than 10 minutes without connecting to the camera, the IDS NXT cockpit may display an error message. To avoid this behavior, open the camera after the selection or disable the camera selection. If the error occurs, you must restart the IDS NXT cockpit.
IDS NXT cockpit Finder The Finder cannot establish a connection to the camera if the PC has several network cards in the same network but uses the network card that does not match the camera's subnet. Make sure that the network that matches the camera's subnet is enabled and accessible.
IDS NXT cockpit Finder / IDS NXT malibu If you reset the IP address after a factory reset, you must enter the password. Note that you must enter the initial password "ids" after a factory reset. If you enter an incorrect password, the IDS NXT cockpit closes without any feedback.
IDS NXT cockpit Update If you update a camera via the IDS NXT cockpit that uses the default password, you will not receive an error message until the update file has been uploaded. First change the password for the "admin" user profile before you perform an update.
IDS NXT cockpit Icon for Crawler is displayed 2x in IDS NXT cockpit. If the vision app "Crawler" is still installed on the camera after an update to IDS NXT cockpit 2.3, the crawler icons are displayed 2x in the IDS NXT cockpit. Uninstall the previous vision app "Crawler" on the camera.
IDS NXT cockpit Mixed operation of IDS NXT cockpit and IDS peak In the case of mixed operation with IDS peak, uninstalling IDS peak or IDS NXT cockpit may lead to complications when updating the GUF files. After uninstalling, reinstall the remaining software to fix the problem.
IDS NXT cockpit Multi camera viewer and vision app selection If you have already selected a vision app for a camera in the multi camera viewer and you subsequently install a new vision app on this camera or delete a vision app, the vision app selection in the multi camera viewer is reset.
  1. Set up the vision apps on the camera.
  2. Configure the multi camera viewer.
  3. Select the vision app in the multi camera viewer.
IDS NXT cockpit Maximum frame rate in freerun mode To achieve the maximum frame rate in freerun mode, no images should be displayed with the IDS NXT cockpit due to performance reasons.
Vision apps Vision app crashed If a vision app has crashed, you have the following options to restart it:
  • Open the IDS NXT cockpit and restart the vision app in the VApp Manager.
  • When the camera is restarted, the vision app is automatically restarted.
If the problem persists, contact the vision app developer.
Object Detector Result output Japanese characters cannot be displayed in the result image.
Classifier Result output Japanese characters cannot be displayed in the result image.
Classifier Nets with attention maps It was noticed that in certain cases classification results differ significantly, which is likely due to the different net architectures. If you use nets with attention maps, you may get different results compared to nets without attention maps. These differences occur because different net architectures are used for training. For serial application, we recommend to use nets without attention maps.
OPC UA Server New installation of a vision app After reinstalling a vision app, it may be necessary to call the "PrepareRecipe" method twice to enable the corresponding recipe. Alternatively, after reinstalling a vision app, it is recommended to start it once initially.
OPC UA Server IDS NXT malibu The camera settings flipHorizontal and flipVertical are currently not saved in a configuration.
