automatica 2022: AI becomes a must-have
Machine vision as a pioneer for intelligent production processes (Kopie)
End of June, the automatica trade fair offered the opportunity to exchange ideas with industry experts and potential users on the topics of intelligent automation and robotics. IDS was represented with a stand. The personal discussions and contact with our customers and interested parties had a real "revival" effect on us. The trade fair was less a "get-together" than an effective source of input for goals and expectations that had already been set in advance. The situation is similar for automation and artificial intelligence in particular. " In this area, a transformation has taken place from the playground for AI applications to seriously practical applications - AI is thus taking automation to a new level," explains Patrick Schick - IDS Product Marketing Manager.
Machine vision with easy-to-integrate components, such as the AI-based vision system IDS NXT, serves as one of the pioneers for intelligent production processes.
Automation is already part of good practice in many companies. It is no longer a question of whether and how automation fits into one's own company or group, but rather which technical solutions can meet the needs of the user as individually as possible. At the same time, it is difficult for companies to find a suitable solution portfolio for their needs in the sea of similar-looking applications. Suppliers of automation technologies must therefore offer efficient solutions that can be integrated quickly.“
In the AI environment, we, as a camera manufacturer for industrial image processing, are also noticing changes. The demand for components and systems for the application of artificial intelligence is increasing - after all, machine vision is one of the pioneers for intelligent production processes," explains Patrick Schick. In discussions at automatica, it once again became clear that companies not only want to move with the times and take their quality assurance to the next level by using industrial cameras. "Many also recognise the potential of artificial intelligence for a sustainable and resource-optimised corporate structure."
Easy AI integration is crucial here. It can be achieved, for example, with components and systems such as IDS NXT, which lower the entry barrier for machine learning through easy-to-use software tools and cover the entire workflow from the creation to the execution of custom AI vision applications. An application wizard and a block-based editor make it easy to realise individual AI processing ideas without having to know the syntax of a specific text-based programming language.
This simplicity makes intelligent automation accessible to entirely new industries and users. Visionpier - our online marketplace for machine vision solutions with and without artificial intelligence - makes it easier to get started and offers suppliers and users the opportunity to network, exchange ideas directly and develop approaches together.
"If you want to act intelligently, you have to see", write the automatica organisers, and that's how we see it too. That's why AI remains one of the big topics in machine vision for us, even after the trade fair.
