CDLC team wins Carolo Cup 2016
The task of the competition is to develop a cost- and energy efficient model car on scale of 1/10 that is able to pass different realistic traffic situations without human assistance. It is up to each of the teams to decide which components they install and which software they integrate.
Stefan Helm, responsible for the Marketing and Software Development of team CDLC, explains why at the Carolo Cup more and more teams bet on USB industrial cameras from IDS by now: “The high framerate, an excellent image quality under difficult light conditions and a reliable and well documented API are certainly some of the reasons.”
Team CDLC decided to use an IDS uEye camera for the second time. The USB 3 uEye LE single-board camera of the winner-car is a particularly powerful industrial camera with the e2v 1.3 megapixel CMOS sensor. This is one of the most sensitive sensors in the IDS product portfolio. Besides its outstanding light sensitivity in CCD quality, the camera also provides maximum flexibility in changing requirements or ambient conditions.
Apart from the convincing product features, the close contact to the sponsor plays an important role for the students from Brauschweig. “We are delighted that IDS not only supports us with a good camera but also follows attentively our activities”, Helm underlines.
And we gladly do that. Thus, we were not only pleased with “Carolines” success. We also appreciated the students visit at IDS headquarters in Obersulm when Helm and his colleagues presented their Golf 2 model to us and used the opportunity to exchange expert opinions.
We are proud that our USB 3 uEye LE could be „Carolines eye” and that we could contribute to her success a little bit this way. We will go on following her activities and are looking forward to the next „Carolo-Cup“.
