FALCON/EAGLE user manual 4.62

Windows

Windows operating systems are plug and play systems. For this reason Windows detects automatically a new multi media device in the system and demands a driver for this device (falcon.sys and falcaud.sys).

To install the FALCON/EAGLE driver, the following steps have to be done:

Installation of the video device

After the FALCON/EAGLE board has been detected from Windows, first the installation of the driver for the video device of the frame grabber has to be done. Search automatically for the FALCON/EAGLE card driver using the Windows dialog and enter as search source the directory, in which the FALCON driver is located.

After this your computer announces that the driver file falcon.inf was found. You may get the warning message that the FALCON/EAGLE driver is not a driver certified by Microsoft. Confirm that the driver should be installed.

hint_info

When installing a non-certified driver, 7/8/8.1/10 will ask whether the driver is to be installed or not. This questions must be confirmed in order to install the FALCON/EAGLE successfully. Windows can be configured by the administrator in such a manner that only certified driver can be installed. In this case the FALCON/EAGLE driver can not be installed.

After installing the low level driver falcon.sys a restart of the PC is not necessary.

Installation of the audio device

Windows detects also an audio device, which is not used from FALCON/EAGLE board, but nevertheless has to be installed. The installation of the audio device is similar to the installation of the video device. Only the driver’s name is different (falcmm.inf). So please follow the steps in the section before.

Also a restart of the PC is not necessary after installing the low level driver falcaud.sys.

After a successful installation of both driver the devices should be registered in the "Device Manager" ("Settings > Control Panel > System > Device Manager").

hint_info

FALCON/EAGLE boards with the old Bt848 chip have no audio device. So in the Device Manager only one device is found. This is called "IDS FALCON/EAGLE frame grabber". The entries in the figure below refers to boards with the Bt878 chip.

Installation of the high level driver

If you want to install the SDK with configuration and demo programs, start setup.exe. Hereby the high level driver will be installed.

Start setup.exe yourself via "Start > Run…" and enter "[Drive:]\setup" and confirm with "OK". Follow the installation instructions.

After accepting the license agreement you will see the dialog for selecting the setup type (see below). Here, you have different setup types for installation:

Fig. 2: Installation

Fig. 2: Installation

Standard (SDK)
Installs all components except source code and video for windows drivers

Driver (SDK)
Only installs the relevant driver.

Minimal (SDK)
Installs the driver and additional tools.

User defined
Choosing "User defined" an individual installation of different components is possible. Here, you have the possibility to install the Video for Windows driver.

After confirming the selected setup type, finally the destination folder for the installation is to be set. In a further dialog you can make an entry in the program group of the start menu.

After installation the PC has to be restarted.

hint_info

Pay attention when using 7/8/8.1/10: it is not enough to start setup.exe. The low level driver must be detected and installed from the plug and play manager of the system.
